Losing body fat, toning up, building muscle are probably the most desired goals when coming to the gym. Diet is the most important part of all these goals and is probably the hardest and most people will struggle with. One of the hardest parts being on a strict diet is that temptation can become too much and over eating can occur.
Cheat meals can be a way to help this out. For those unfamiliar with what they are, a cheat meal is when you have a bad meal once a week. I know a few clients read my blog and most people know Im tough on diets and indulging so why and when would I recommend having them at all. A cheat meal can help you psychologically get through dieting and eating right. With planning a cheat meal you are in control with what it will be, so you have control and wont over indulge! Having a larger calorie meal once a week can actually cause your metabolism to stimulate and burn more fat and also build more muscle.
Try having them before exercise if you can so that any excess calories can be burnt up in exercise. If you cant then try to exercise the next day as this will help get you back on track. A cheat meal also isn’t a licence to just eat as much as possible in one meal, its still important to have control and keep the portion size small.
So if you are currently dieting really well but starting to feel the pressure of something bad then maybe start planning in a cheat meal once a week as this can help control those cravings you might be having and also get some of your friends off your back about eating well.
