Keeping with the fat burning topic before summer let’s take a look into HIIT training. Ask anyone if they want to lose weight they will be doing some form of cardio (hopefully weight resistance as well). However in recent years it has be shown that sitting on a treadmill for over 40 minutes at a moderate pace is not as efficient as what we all believe it to be.
So this is where HIIT comes into your training but what the hell is it? Well actually it’s really simple.
What you do is for 20 – 30 minutes of exercise you perform 30 seconds to 1 minute of high intensity (sprint or as fast as you can) and then low intensity training for 30seconds to 1 minute (slow jog to a walk).
What 20 – 30 minutes and then 3 times a week?!?!?! Yep you heard me right. The amount of time is really important. The longer we go with cardio the body starts going into a catabolic state and burning muscle rather than fat. Also using HIIT training will increase your metabolic rate after the training which will help you burn more fat after the session but will also help with releasing more growth hormone.
So if you are currently using a treadmill regularly or any other form of cardio and on the equipment for 40 minutes and not seeing any result then give HIIT training a go and see how it can benefit you.
