Some people cringe at the name and some people cant eat enough of the stuff (I am one) but could cottage cheese be in some ways a super food? Well let me explain what it is and why it is a super food.
Cottage Cheese is a low fat, low carb and high protein soft, white cheese with a paste-like, grainy consistency. Creamed Cottage Cheese has a curd that is washed and then a cream dressing is added. So a simple cheese but cottage cheese has a couple of really important properties that all members of a gym (class goers or gym junkies) can get from it.
First off cottage cheese is a casein protein, which means it is mainly a slow digesting protein. This is fantastic for people looking for a snack to keep them full longer as it can take up to 5 hours to fully digest. For the people lifting for muscle building cottage cheese is great before bed as it will keep releasing protein while you are asleep which will keep you in a muscle building state most of the night. Cottage cheese then also has high levels of amino acids and glutamine which are the main foundation for muscle repair and growth in the body. So everyone can benefit from this as during a class or after lifting weights your muscle’s are looking for amino acids and protein to rebuild which cottage cheese can supply them with.
So if you enjoy cottage cheese then I recommend getting some from the supermarket asap and start including it into your diet on a regular basis.
