When I started lifting my mentor was Arnold Schwarzenegger from his book the education of a bodybuilder (which I highly recommend). This was a major motivation for me on how to train and eat to achieve my goals. However as time went on I started developing my training style learning from my mistakes and becoming more educated on the art of lifting weights from other sources and not just arnie.
As bodybuilding has grown there is more information in books magazines and DVD’s. So with a more informed public why don’t we all look like Ronnie colemen (8 time mr Olympia) or grow huge in 3 months like the magazines say we can if you use their supplement? Well body builders like any sport have the natural genetics and in bodybuilding there is also the help of steroids or other unnatural supplements.
We all fall in love with arnie or Ronnie but we cant lift like them as they are freaks of nature, so we CAN’T yes that’s right CAN’T train like them. Ive been on arnie’s 6 day morning and night spilt and ended up with sore elbows, knees and back. To be honest Ive had more growth off a proper diet and training body parts once a week with strict form. The strict form was crucial for me as I had less pain in problem areas than in the past.
So read about body builders and how they train and watch their dvds for new ideas. However take whatever you see with a grain of salt and remember we aren’t Ronnie weighing in at 300ish pounds of muscle.
