Caffeine – Should I use it?

With the ever growing market of energy drinks and pre workout supplements many people are asking should i use caffeine for working out or sport.

Besides alcohol and nicotine caffeine is the most widely used drug in the world. Caffeine is a stimulant which stimulates your central nervous system and increases your heart rate and blood pressure. It is in tea, coffee and coco and most people use this to help them through the day and some people use it to stay awake.

Caffeine is now being used more and more regularly in exercise and sport. During exercise it can help with focus and intensity due to the central nervous system being stimulated. There have been other studies to have shown how caffeine helps prevent muscle soreness as well. Caffeine is also shown to help increase you metabolic rate which then can help with weight loss as well. Caffeine does have side effects. It can cause insomnia, raises blood pressure and many other issues.

My personal opinion on caffeine is I believe it is a great supplement to use for exercise. I take it regularly and enjoy using it as it helps with my workouts (however I don’t drink coffee or other energy drinks during the day to keep my levels lower). However I don’t believe that people should over use caffeine and I don’t agree with young children using them for sport or drinking the energy drinks.

So if you are unsure on using caffeine for sport or exercise I would consult your doctor to get a opinion and if you choose to use caffeine I would regulate how much you are getting in a day as you can get incidental caffeine from coffee tea and coco.
